MESSAGES FROM NATIONAL PRESIDENT

UPDATE 0015/20
For the last 125 years, the Navy League of Canada has stood by its communities fulfilling its mission to provide support to youth across the nation.

In the interest of global efforts to keep Canadians everywhere safe, the Navy League of Canada has decided to cancel all in-person Navy League activities until 31 August 2020.

COVID-19 has presented Canadians with challenges unlike anything we have ever seen before. From coast to coast to coast, citizens stand apart for the collective good, and many families continue to make critical adjustments to their daily lives for the greater benefit of the population.

These last few weeks have been incredibly difficult. Some youth rely on Navy League programs for a sense of stability, structure, and purpose. This time apart has made it abundantly clear that being physically apart does not mean being disconnected. Now more than ever we should be engaged with our loved ones, our shipmates, and our colleagues, and provide support wherever we can while maintaining personal and collective health as a priority. Canadians are resilient, and with extra care and kindness, we will persevere.

As a national organization with members embedded in 230 communities across the country, the Navy League of Canada holds the health and safety of the cadets, members, volunteers, and their families in our highest priority. We encourage our members to remain vigilant, and follow the recommendations of their local health authorities, adopting physical distancing as best as possible.

We look forward to connecting with you soon, stronger than ever.

Sincerely,

Matthew Waterman, CD
National President
The Navy League of Canada

UPDATE 0001/20

- Message from the National President -

Over the last few weeks we have been monitoring the COVID-19 pandemic and its developments in Canada and abroad. As the federal and provincial governments update their recommendations to prevent the spread of this virus, it is becoming abundantly clear that Canadians must make every effort to follow the recommendations set out by Canadian health authorities.

In response to recent developments, the Navy League Cadet program is cancelled until Friday 3 April 2020, effective immediately. Navy League Cadet Corps shall not conduct local training or activities until directed otherwise.

Furthermore, all Navy League meetings, appearances and events are cancelled effective immediately until 3 April 2020.

As a national organization with extensive group programming across the country, the Navy League of Canada holds the health and safety of the cadets, members, volunteers, and their families in our highest priority.

The Navy League of Canada is conducting ongoing risk assessments to determine the feasibility of meetings currently scheduled in April as the data on COVID-19 evolves over time and information is made available. Further guidance on these events will be provided prior to 3 April 2020.

We appreciate the cooperation of our members in monitoring their personal health, and limiting their personal contact with large groups or gatherings taking place. Members are encouraged to remain current on the evolving information on COVID-19 by referring to their local health authorities on this matter.

Sincerely,

Matt Waterman, CD
National President
The Navy League of Canada

Matt Waterman, CD
Président national
Ligue navale du Canada
