Sub Lieutenant (NL) Richard Lewis, JCD, B.Compt(Hons), FCG, CPA, CGA, DTM BIO
Richard Lewis has had a long and successful career as a senior Financial Leader having served as a CFO and a Director of Finance in large UK Listed Companies. He recently retired from John Wood Group plc, after 21 years as Director of Finance for the Americas. Prior to that he was the CFO of James Howden Limited a large UK and SA listed group, subsidiary.
He graduated from university with an undergraduate Bachelor of Accounting Science and a post graduate Honors Bachelor of Accounting Science (“BCompt(Hons)”) and was a member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants, Associate General Accountant (“AGA”).
Richard is a Fellow of the Chartered Governance Institute of Canada and UK “(FCG”) and a Chartered Professional Accountant, Certified General Accountant (“CPA,CGA”).
He spent 15 years in the auditing and accounting profession with EY, H.M. Parker and PWC, before venturing into industry.
He joined Toastmasters on August 31, 2012, as a Charter member of Wood Oakville Toastmasters Club.
He was also a Charter Member of Own the Moment Oakville Toastmasters and subsequently transferred his membership to Milton Toastmasters.
Since joining Toastmasters, he has achieved the highest education award of Distinguished Toastmasters (“DTM.”) and has recently completed two education paths, Effective Coaching (“EC”) and Presentation Mastery (“PM”).
Richard is a past 2016/2017 Division D, Area 81 director and 2020/2021 Division B, Area B32 director, both voluntary positions.
In 2015 Richard was the District 86, Table Topics Contest Winner.
Whilst studying and working, Richard had a second simultaneous career in the South African Navy, Naval Reserve attaining the rank of Lieutenant Commander.
Richard has held numerous volunteer positions. He is a past three term President of the Naval Association of Canada (“NAC”) (formerly the Naval Officers Association of Canada), Toronto Branch. He is currently a board member and treasurer of the N.O.A.C. Toronto Branch Scholarship Fund, a Trustee of the NAC Endowment Fund, a member of the Navy League and a charter member of the recently incorporated Milton Naval Association.
Richard is a family man, and his wife Beverley is also a Toastmaster. They have two children and 4 grandchildren between 3 and 6 years of age.
